So yes, I was a catholic school boy.
My parents always felt that would be the most important legacy and inheritance to their three boys. To this day I still have no idea how they managed putting us through private school.
I’m forever grateful for that experience. Not only didn’t I have an exceptional education, but I also had extraordinary influencers along the way.
Tonight I said goodbye to one of them. Father Avelino Lorenzo was the parish priest in the years I attended St. Mary’s. In fact he remained there for over 30 years. So it’s no surprise he did many of our sacraments.
I served with him as a founding board member of the Salesian Family Youth Center. He has a gentle, quiet, humble soul. He served God and his vocation as a Salesian was his life’s work and dedication.
I can still hear his Spanish accent. He was a native of Spain. I remember one time the board feverishly raising money to send him to Spain as a thank you for all he did for us and the community.
Godspeed Father Lorenzo. May God grant you eternal peace and perpetual light.
You did good here! ❤️🙏🏻❤️
