By far Ronald McDonald House is our family’s favorite charity.
What they do is such a powerful testament to the need that exists and how people come together to selflessly help when family’s most need help. Many of us count our blessings with good health. But we never know when a helping hand will be needed. Ronald McDonald House has one single purpose. That’s to provide a home away from home to families who have a child undergoing cancer treatment or any other ailment at a local children’s hospital. It’s free of charge to the family. It’s one less thing for them to worry about and allows them to focus on the child’s treatment and recovery. Sometimes there are happy outcomes, others there are not. But what matters is that for the moment, it’s a refuge that provides a sense of normalcy in the family’s most vulnerable time.
Now that I’m a parent, their mission hits home even harder. Over the course of the last couple years, we’ve met friends, neighbors, strangers whom have shared their story and how they’ve either benefited or been impacted by this house that love built.
If this is the first time you’ve heard of this cause, I invite you to research them a little more and maybe get involved. Either by contributing financially or giving of your time as a volunteer. They also have a popular program where people get together to make dinner for families staying at the Ronald House. It’s a great way to experience their mission first hand.
Tonight was the fundraiser for the house in Pasadena. Absolutely beautiful evening. I hope to instill the value of giving and service to my girls.
