17 Weeks Pregnant! And The Hunt for the Perfect Diaper Ensues

We hit 17 weeks today!

The baby is 5 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces as well. His sweat glands are starting to develop.

Mom to be today spent a lot of time research diapers. Looks like she is placing an order through The Honest Company. Apparently it's a company started by Jessica Alba. Her line is all about organic and non-toxic material that is also good for the environment. All I can say is that is sounds expensive. It really do hope it's not. I will volunteer to wash those reusable diaper thingies if need be.

The wife's center of gravity is also changing given her now shifting of her organs to make room for the growing baby.

While her skin is visibly drier, her eyes will too even though they haven't yet.

This is also the time that she is expected to have vivid and memorable dreams. Mostly due to her heightened emotional state.

This time is also a good one to reflect on ones relationships to others and to the one we share with our significant others.

A friend shared a very powerful statement by Nietzsche today which resonates quite well with the state of relationships.

"It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages."

Friedrich Nietzsche

Nobody ever said relationships or even marriage are easy. They are not. If they are, then someone is either not bringing their whole self or is limiting their authenticity in their ability to be vulnerable.

Love is definitely important. But friendship is so very much an important part of the equation.

Life is definitely a succession of events. That is why it is so important to realize that it is critical that we see how we not only live them but just as importantly how we react to them. I have learned that at times we need to choose our battles but also know when to just move on. Holding grudges or "keeping count" is just toxic. One must learn to see beyond it. But seeing beyond it doesn't mean ignoring it or the issues. Too many times I have seen relationships come crumbling down for this important aspect of communication or simply sharing ones feelings or how that situation made us feel. It's not and should NEVER be about who is right or who is wrong. Nor taking one side or the other. The premise should always be grounded on the principle of open and honest dialogue. Our ability to share how we feel is important. A lot of this when tension or friction arises can be smoother when you are a friend first and foremost with the one you share your life with. Love is a feeling. Friendship is a connection. Both can come together fulfilling you with an emotional connection that can conquer mountains.

  1. Love the sentiment and it's so true!!!

Now about the diapers, let's just say that going organic and chemical free is the best. But at the end of the day it will depend on the babies skin sensitivities. I tried a diaper service with Nadia when she was a baby her skin was sensitive with the soap they used to wash and disinfect the diapers, My mom and I tried buying and making cloth diapers...OMG that is a lot of work and let's remember that I have always been a working mom. So I switched to store bought diapers. Nadia got rashes with some and others the gel stuff would end up stuck to her butt. I was forced to use the most expensive diapers on the market at that time. Pampers had a premium diaper that was cloth-like on the exterior. At that time all the other brands were plastic on the outside and that plastic would give Nadia extremely bad rashes. Now you also have organic disposable diapers for travel while you use cloth at home. Here are a few brands I would recommend, they are eco-friendly, non-chlorine, latex free, perfume free and some dye free. Check out: ,, and for disposable diapers and baby lotions, wipes, etc. For cloth diapers check out, they have super absorbent cloth diapers that are made from organic and non-bleached cotton and they also carry detergent to wash the cloth diapers. They explain how to work with cloth diapers and what to do with washing and maintaining it. Either way you have your work cut out for you.

Now that takes us to the next step. Baby food and formula, not sure if you have decided on how long to breast feed the baby or not, but here is a link to non GMO baby formula and food. This link will also let you know where to buy these products.

Either way have you already decided on a birthing plan? Hospital or Mid-wife? In water or regular, etc. etc. etc.

Lots to plan and decide!!! Get to it and keep us posted!! I will be more than happy to nudge you in the right direction if you get lost along the way! ;-p

  2. Babies are unpredictable. You can research and plan and prepare and then they come out being allergic or disliking something and throwing a wrench into the whole thing! Buy what you think is best but wait for bulk, just in case. Oh and the BREAST is BEST. 6 months exclusive then its up to Ali. I gave E 1y and B 2y. :)
